This is a private information site with no connection to the National Police Agency, prefectural police, embassies or any other public body. For a final answer on whether you can drive or how a procedure works, always check the latest information from the official authorities.
Editorial policy
- We rely first on primary sources such as the National Police Agency, prefectural police, e-Gov (Japan's official law database) and embassies.
- Each page lists its sources and the date we last checked them.
- When a rule changes, we record the date of the change and the date we checked it in the update history.
- Whether something is an offence, and the points or fines involved, can depend on the case and on legal changes, so we avoid definitive statements and recommend checking with the authorities.
- We do not use trick questions or exaggeration, and we explain the reasons behind points that are easy to misunderstand.
About translations
The Japanese version is the original. Other language versions are translated from the Japanese version with the help of AI. If a language version differs, the Japanese version takes precedence.
